One of my favourite weekend activities is to go out for breakfast on a Saturday morning. There’s no better feeling than starting the day with a good meal and knowing you still have the whole weekend ahead of you to enjoy! I may be a little biased but Nice at Nelson Bay is one of my favourite local breakfast spots. Nice has a lovely shaded outdoor terrace that looks out over the park and down to the marina. Their food and coffee is some of the best around!
A young local couple that own this café have put a quirky touch on the furnishings and elements of the place, including succulents for added greenery and the menus which are fitted in to Little Golden Books… Reminisce on your childhood while you order your meal!
Nice offers a lot of half-serves on their menu so if you’re only feeling a bit peckish you can rest assured you won’t leave filled to the brim. The best way to start is with one of their creamy lattes as the coffee here is always good.
One big reason why I love Nice is their food presentation… It is always perfection on a plate but slightly new each time. I am a bit of a fanatic about their bacon banana pancakes and each time I’m excited to see what the garnish will look like… Carmelised banana, toffee-topped banana, grape slivers, but it all comes with one of my all time favourite garnishes – edible flowers. If you’re ordering a savoury dish, they often come with home-made relishes and did I mention how the avocado comes out… I’ll let you find out for yourselves!
To get to this quaint café, walk across the pedestrian bridge over Victoria Parade onto the first level of the Nelson Towers, or enter Nelson Towers from the Magnus St end where Baskin Robbins Ice Creamery is.
