The first official post in my new Friday Thrift Series!
Have you noticed how popular not only indoor plants, but accessories like plant stands are getting?! I have! They really give your plants a lift (hehe), especially if they are young, to elevate them to give them more prominence in a room. Its easy enough to find fairly cheap, wire stands but I also love the wooden type ones like these…
The wooden or mid-century mod style can be pricey though, the above ones are hundreds of dollars! A little while ago as I wandered through the aisles of my local recycle centre, I came across this…
A wooden plant stand! Yes its pretty old-looking, and the wood colour is a tacky cherry red, but it had potential. It didn’t have a price on it, and when I went to pay for it the lady at the counter couldn’t even tell what it was, so she let me steal it for just $2. A great feature of this stand is that it has little adjustable feet on the bottom of its legs, so that if the floor is uneven it can still sit flat.
How I did It:
It probably took me about 45 mins to sand off the laquer and most of the red colour, but it did come off pretty easily.
Then all that was needed was to tape off the section I didn’t want to paint, and get out the spray paint! It took probably 3-4 coats to fully cover it, but I think it turned out pretty good. Definitely worth the $2! Here it is with my Fiddle Leaf Fig (and little Aloe that just keeps spreading)!

Where did you get the beautiful basket your fig sits in??? I’ve been looking everywhere for woven baskets or even reed baskets to put my fig in but to no avail. Any suggestions?
Hey Bri, its actually just a cheapie but a goodie from Kmart! Not sure where you are based but I’m in Australia, there are quite a few similar ones around. They have some nice ones on Etsy though, hope you find one 🙂
